GGV Chucky: Park Heights Native behind the Lens to Production Executive for VA Shift: A Baltimore Creative on the Rise
Born and raised in Park Heights, Baltimore, GGV Chucky knows exactly what it means to grow up in a city full of potential and pressure. “We all know how Baltimore is… i'm just trying to separate myself from the crabs in this bucket I was born in,” he says. That statement right there sets the tone for his story: real, raw, and rooted in purpose.
From a young age, Chucky had a connection with technology and media. While some kids were out chasing trends, he was discovering tools. “I got into photography when I was 17,” he reflects. What started as snapping pictures during his junior and senior years of high school turned into something deeper, an eye for moments others might miss.
College took his passion to another level, shifting his focus to sports photography. But it didn’t stop there. Once he left school, the grind got even more intentional. He began networking, dipping into creative direction and conceptual photography, learning how to turn ideas into visuals that speak. Then, early in 2023, everything shifted again.
He found a new lane cinema and video work and rebranded himself from just a photographer to a full-on visual storyteller. Joining the BMG Team gave him both community and creative fuel. “Since then, I’ve been using everything and everyone around me as creative inspiration,” he says. “I’m just tryna build a notable, respectable face-card & brand.”
But being a creator isn’t always about aesthetics it’s a mental journey too. For Chucky, one of his biggest battles happens in his own head. “The biggest challenge I face is creator’s mind,” he admits. “I overthink a lot of my work and mentally set my goals further than what they actually are.” That self-imposed pressure can sometimes hold him back from stepping out of his comfort zone but it’s also what pushes him to elevate.
Despite a growing list of accomplishments, Chucky remains humble. “I thank God for a few wins along the way,” he says, “but the hunger in me doesn’t allow me to see them as accomplishments just yet.” That kind of mindset? It keeps him moving, keeps him grounded, and most importantly keeps him working.
And when asked what advice he’d give to others stepping into the creative space, his message is simple but powerful
“Stay true to what makes you YOU. There’s no failure in the journey to success just get up and go get it. If you keep God and good energy close, you’ll never stray too far from your goals.”
From Park Heights to production sets, from still photos to cinematic visions, Chucky is proof that purpose, paired with persistence, can turn struggle into story and story into legacy. Currently Chucky is now the Production Executive at VASHIFT a a culture-driven media outlet amplifying the sound, stories, and style of the DMV and beyond.
